CHICAGO – On Friday, June 9, Patrick A. Salvi II completed his term as the 69th President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He officially handed the role over to Kathy C. Byrne of Cooney & Conway during ITLA’s annual convention at the Sheraton Grand Chicago.
During his term, Mr. Salvi and the ITLA Executive Committee have celebrated a number of victories, most recently in supporting legislation that will enhance fairness in certain aspects of plaintiff’s law. Various initiatives of ITLA, including eliminating the common carrier exemption for rideshare companies, making punitive damages available even if the victim dies from the willful conduct, providing meaningful trial preference for older litigants, and keeping defense experts honest during medical examinations by allowing videotaping, will enhance fairness for plaintiffs and make Illinois a safer place. These bills have passed the General Assembly during the past year and, hopefully, will be signed by Governor Pritzker.
“As I reflect on the last year as ITLA’s President, I am incredibly humbled. The people, past and present, are the ones that have made this organization what it is,” Patrick Salvi Jr. stated, “ITLA’s reputation and integrity has been built through the hard work of many people over many years. We must cherish and honor the responsibility that comes with our standing. I only hope to have carried it forward another year, so I can pass the baton to Kathy Byrne, as Matt Dudley did for me.”
Congratulations to Patrick and the ITLA staff on a successful and productive year!
