CHICAGO (March 31, 2023) – Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard attorneys Jennifer L. Ashley, Rob L. Kohen and Michael J. Schostok recently obtained a $1.8 million settlement on behalf of a woman who suffered a spinal injury as a result of a crash with a semi-truck.
On March 24, 2018, the plaintiff was driving southbound I-55 during a snowstorm when traffic came to a stop. While stopped in traffic, Plaintiff’s stopped vehicle was struck by a semi-truck owned by a Defendant trucking company and being driven by one of their employees.
The semi hit Plaintiff’s sedan on the rear left corner. As a result of the crash, Plaintiff lost consciousness and was transported by ambulance to a local emergency room.
Plaintiff’s treating doctors and experts claimed she aggravated pre-existing bulging discs at C3-4 and 4-5. To treat her injuries, Plaintiff underwent two anterior cervical discectomy and fusions at C4-5 and at C3-4.
Defendants admitted liability, but denied Plaintiff was injured to the extent she claimed. Attorneys for the defendants claimed the bulging discs just worsened over time from the initial accident and were not caused by the 2018 incident. They further alleged the force of the impact was not hard enough to cause injury.
