CHICAGO (February 25, 2022) – A Cook County jury awarded $1.8 million to a Texas woman who was sexually assaulted by a security guard while staying at a Chicago-area Holiday Inn and claimed that the hotel’s negligence allowed the assault to take place.
Counsel for plaintiff Karla Gress had asked jurors during closing arguments Thursday afternoon to award her $25 million for past and future emotional distress and other damage she sustained following her October 2013 stay at a Holiday Inn in Chicago’s northern suburb of Skokie, where she says a security guard assaulted her. Gress argued that the hotel management failed to take reasonable steps to protect its guests.
