Chicago Daily Law Bulletin: Woman gets $20M settlement after injury in Maywood crash

CHICAGO (May 11, 2022) – Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard recently obtained a $20 million settlement for a woman who sustained a thoracic spine injury in a 2017 Maywood, Illinois car crash. The case went to trial in November of 2021 on damages only before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Janet Adams Brosnahan. On December 9, 2021, a jury awarded Plaintiff Kayla Neese a $21.05 million verdict for her injuries.

Post-trial, defense counsel filed motions that were denied in full and they planned to move forward with the appeal process. On April 29, 2022, the parties agreed to settle the case for $20 million, five months after the jury verdict was returned.

“It was a settlement that I think made sense for both sides given the risks associated with proceeding and ultimately is a result that we’re very happy with for Kayla,” Plaintiff’s attorney Patrick A. Salvi II told the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. “It’ll allow her to, I hope, get all the medical care that she needs and rekindle her relationship with her daughter, which is so important.”
