WAUKEGAN, Ill. (June 9, 2017) – We live in a world where we are constantly barraged with advertisements from auto insurance companies trying to convince us their product is the best and most protective. As a law firm known for helping people who have been injured in an auto accident, we have a unique insight as to which companies offer the best coverage to their clients.
Many insurance companies use commercials and other forms of advertisement to convince people that their coverage is the best. And when you add customer reviews like Yelp and Google to the mix, it can be extremely confusing to determine which company is the most protective and easiest to work with.
To help cut through the confusion, Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., Partner Jennifer L. Ashley has put together a guide to her picks for the best auto insurance companies based on years of working with a variety of companies in the industry.
This insight is different from websites that evaluate insurance companies because car accident attorneys see just how insurance companies treat people after they have been involved in a crash, when they need help the most. Ms. Ashley says her top picks for best auto insurance companies to work with are:
- Farmer’s
- State Farm
- Auto Owner’s
Ms. Ashley says, “In my experience, when the liability rests with the insured party and the injuries suffered in a crash are significant, the adjusters from the insurance companies listed above do the right thing for the injured party. Insurance companies have the power to prolong the process by denying any fault or devaluing the client’s injuries, but the process goes much smoother when the insurance company owns up to what happened and offer a reasonable value of the case.”
As far as knowing which type of policy is right for you and your family, Ms. Ashley has a few recommendations.
In Illinois, the minimum policy limit for personal injury is currently $25,000 per person, and no more than $50,000 per accident, regardless of how many people are injured.
“Ambulance and ER bills alone can easily exceed $25,000. Not only does your limit cover injuries you cause to others, it is also your policy if you are injured by someone with no insurance or involved in a hit-and-run accident. Therefore, your limits should be at least $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident. The more you can afford, the better!” Ms. Ashley says.
Additionally, if you have assets (i.e. you own a company, home, business, boats, etc.), an umbrella policy is recommended. If you have bodily injury limits of $250,000 per person and $500,000 per accidents, you can set a $1 million umbrella policy for a small increase in your monthly payments.
“That small change will buy yourself peace of mind for whatever might happen on the road,” Ms. Ashley notes.
