CHICAGO DAILY LAW BULLETIN: Cook jury awards record $32.7M for foot amputation

CHICAGO (October 4, 2023) – A Cook County jury awarded a record $32.7 million to a man who lost his right foot after doctors failed to diagnose a blood clot, despite his medical history of being prone to them.

The verdict is the highest reported by the Jury Verdict Reporter for the loss of one leg or foot in Illinois.

“We’re grateful that the jury saw the significance of Billy’s injuries and recognize everything that he’s been through and will continue to struggle with over the remaining [years] of his life,” attorney David J. Rashid told Law Bulletin.
