North Chicago, Ill. (January 23, 2020) – Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, P.C. has donated $1,000 to the North Chicago Police Department to go towards purchasing the drug Narcan, a medication that can save a person’s life after a drug or alcohol overdose.
Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard presented the donation to the police department during a check presentation ceremony at the police headquarters on Wednesday January 22, 2020. The ceremony was attended by North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez, Sergeant Corey Marquardt, and Salvi Law attorney Elizabeth R. Olszewski. The $1,000 donation by Salvi Law adds to a $600,000 opioid initiative grant recently donated to the department.
“The North Chicago Police Department is grateful to Salvi, Schostok and Pritchard for their generous donation to help our city combat the growing opioid crisis facing our nation. Equipping the men and women of the North Chicago Police Department with the lifesaving Narcan nasal spray will be essential to saving lives. Across the nation, struggling addicts are given a second chance at life thanks to the quick action of equipped first responders. I am excited to see our officers even better equipped to help the residents of the North Chicago community,” North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez said.
Ninety-seven deaths were classified as overdoses in Lake County in 2018, 70 of which involved some type of opioid or opiate. Anti-anxiety drugs, as well as a host of other street drugs, contributed to the non-opioid overdose deaths.
The county has instated several programs to combat the epidemic, including being one of the first counties in the state and country to provide Naloxone to all first-responders and to train and provide school nurses with the antidote as well. The effort resulted in 307 lives saved by first-responders since the program was started in early 2014, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard is proud to partner with the North Chicago Police Department, as we have with other Lake County first responders, in their efforts to combat the opioid epidemic, which impacts all of us. Narcan is an important and effective tool used to reverse an overdose and provide a second chance at life,” said Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard’s COO TJ Saye.
