MEDIA ALERT: Stop Sterigenics Citizen Lobby Day, Public Hearing

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (February 18, 2019) – A Stop Sterigenics Citizen Lobby Day is planned for Tuesday, February 19 in Springfield, Illinois.

A group of attorneys representing clients affected by the toxic emissions released from Sterigenics will join dozens of residents from the Western Suburbs as they meet with state legislators about the importance of banning the emission of ethylene oxide in Illinois.

A press conference is set to take place at 11 a.m. at the State Capitol building.

At 3 p.m., the House Environment Committee will host a public hearing to discuss the issue of ethylene oxide omissions and legislation to be filed by Rep. Sam Yingling (D-IL-62):

The hearing will consist of three panels: The Illinois Attorney General and Illinois Environmental Council, the Sterigenics side, and the Stop Sterigenics side. Several people who have been diagnosed with cancer and other serious health issues will share their stories with the committee at that time.
