Lake Forest Man May Have Died From Tainted Peanut Butter - Published by the Waukegan News Sun

LAKE COUNTY, IL - A Lake Forest man died recently after eating peanut butter from a batch that has since been recalled and Waukegan attorney Patrick Salvi is having the remaining peanut butter from the jar tested to see if it is contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

If the laboratory tests come back positive, Salvi said Wednesday he will file a wrongful death civil lawsuit against ConAgra, the manufacturer, and anyone else responsible for the defective peanut butter.

Peanut Butter Salmonella Contamination Information

On February 14th, 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to consumers regarding Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter due to risk of contamination with Salmonella Tennessee.  Salmonella Tennessee is a bacterium that causes food borne illness.  Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and abdominal pain.  In individuals with poor health or weakened immune systems, Salmonella can invade the bloodstream and cause life-threatening infections.  The affected jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter have a product code located on the lid of the jar that begins with the number "2111."

In February of 2007, Matthew L. Williams and Patrick A. Salvi obtained a $1,040,000.00 under-insured motorist claim on behalf of Mr. Mitchell Cooper who died in an automobile accident in rural Alabama.

On July 13, 2006, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were traveling on State Highway 53 when they were struck head on by another car.  Mr. Cooper passed away at the scene of the accident, while Mrs. Cooper suffered several orthopedic injuries.

Leg Fracture While Horse Back Riding Leads to Settlement

In June of 2006, Matthew L. Williams obtained a $285,000 settlement on behalf of Rachel Laxner who suffered orthopedic injuries while riding a horse.  On August 20, 2005, Rachel Laxner was on the horse when it unexpectedly reared up on its hind legs and fell back causing a compound fracture of the left femur.  She went through several surgical procedures to stabilize the fracture and to repair lacerations with skin grafts.
